We are Matt and Reece and we are The Sidecar Guys. We’re known as The Sidecar Guys because we are the Guinness World Record holders for the longest journey by scooter and sidecar and the first people to circumnavigate the planet on a scooter with a sidecar.
We love anything to do with adventure. When we’re not creating and producing the world’s first virtual adventure festival, we spend all of our time either writing, talking or making films about our adventures. We don’t work alone though and are only successful through the help of fantastic volunteers who help us do things like build sidecars and websites.
The Armchair Adventure Festival is the first ever virtual adventure festival. In April 2020 we brought some of the most inspiring and interesting adventure talks from around the world straight to people's armchairs! The weekend included talks from top adventurers, panel discussions on all kinds of adventurous topics and showings of some of the most exciting adventure films out there. The event raised over £8,000 for the NHS Charities Together Fund and was viewed by over 20,000 people worldwide. The second Armchair Adventure Festival will take place from 27th-29th November – be sure to sign up for your free place.
Our journey took us 34,000 miles through 35 countries on the most inappropriate mode of transport imaginable. The As Seen From The Sidecar expedition was the first ever circumnavigation of the globe on a scooter with a sidecar and from the snows of Siberia to the sands of the Sahara, we faced a temperature range of +50°C to -40°C. At times, it was a ridiculous amount of fun and at other times it was far too challenging. We returned from the trip just over a year ago and now live in the UK. Be sure to read our blogs posts from the road and check out our interactive map to follow our journey.
We never intended to write a book about our journey but there are so many stories to tell that we just couldn’t capture on camera. Our Ridiculous World (Trip) has been written by Matt and put together with the help of the Change Your World Fund. It tells the story of our journey around the world by scooter and sidecar with a focus on the absurdity of the challenge, the kindness of the strangers we met and the stories of modern slavery which we researched en route. The book will be released in August 2020 - join our newsletter to make sure you receive information on how to pre-order.
We always intended to film the trip as best we could and Reece has spent the best part of a year sifting through 15 months of footage from the trip in order to put together a professional grade travel film. He has been working on a short film with the legendary Austin Vince which will be screened at this years Adventure Travel Film Festival and has plans to release a longer feature-length edit online, later this year. Join the newsletter to be the first to hear about how to watch the film.
Ever wondered what happens to your face when riding a motorbike at -40C? Or maybe you’re pondering that age old question – how high can a scooter with a sidecar really go? Well, you’re in luck! We're now doing talks on everything and anything to do with the As Seen From The Sidecar expedition. We are able to talk to audiences of any size and background about any aspects of our work.
